The theme for PechaKucha Vol 3 is Inspire Japan and it is part of the Global PechaKucha fundraiser for the victims of the Japanese tsunami and earthquake. Japan has inspired the creative world for many generations - now it is time for the creative world to inspire Japan to rebuild; that amongst this devastation there is light - and we want everyone to know that the world is with them.
What is Pecha Kucha Night?
Pecha Kucha Night, devised by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham (Klein Dytham architecture), was conceived in Tokyo in 2003 as a place for designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. Pecha Kucha (which is Japanese for the sound of conversation) has spread virally to over 394 cities across the world.
Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each – giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. There is a beer break which gives the audience a chance to speak to presenters who have inspired them. The objective is to get Lagos's designers to network and exchange ideas and make design in all industries part of the Lagos fabric. It has already been hailed as a breath of fresh air in Lagos, inspiring similar events and initiating collaborations among the presenters.
Door donations go to Architecture for Humanity's Rebuild (AHF), which PechaKucha partnered with for PechaKucha Haiti. They have built a school with 100% of the donations. Please see http://www.pecha-kucha.org/presentations/220
PK3 would hold at Terrakulture today, April 19 at 6pm. 10 designers - architects, graphic designers, illustrators, product designers, photographers, artists etc will present their works and inspire Japan
